This page contains a list those members with the Audley surname that fought in WW2.  Unfortunately WW2 service records and medal records are currently not in the public domain. This list has been created:

    • from those records that are in the public domain.
    • from a list from the ‘ Ministry of Defence’ (October 2021) which gave brief details of those people with the Audley surname and born prior to 1922 whose service records was in the Ministry of Defence.

It should be noted that as of October 2021 that the ‘MOD’ have recently commences transferring the Service Records, of those Service Personnel who were discharged from the forces from 1921 to 1971, to ‘The National Archives’. This project is anticipated to be completed in 2027.

As a result of the above the list below will include people who served in the forces and were discharged between 1921 and 1939 and who were not combatants in WW2

In his WW2 service records he is referred to as either ‘Percy Audley’ or ‘R P Audley’  Suffolk Regiment 2nd Battalion

He was a member of the Territorial Army, and on the outbreak of War he enlisted in the British Army, firstly in the Essex Regiment, he moved to the 4th Battalion, Royal Suffolk, Regiment. He was captured by the Japanese Army in Singapore, and later forced to work on the Japanese ‘Thai-Burma Railway’.

In the 1939 registers he s recorded as a Lieutenant and his address is recorded as ‘Officers Quarters 68th High A.A Bty RA TAR c/o Lobitos Oil Fields, Ellesmere Port Cheshire.
 He  relinquished his commission on 4th June 1940 and transferred to ‘Class W’ reserve. ‘Class W’ reserve is defined as ‘for all those soldiers whose services are deemed to be more valuable to the country in civil rather than military employment.
From October 1942 his postal address is recorded as c/o The Petroleum Board, Milford Haven (from his sons service record).

At some stage it would appear that he was a Lieutenant at the Indian Military Academy at Dehradun the capital city of Uttarakhand state in  Northern India. The IMA was established in 1932 to train Indian Soldiers as officers for the British run Indian Army.
